Steele Cooper Law Offers Personal Support for Sexual Violence Cases

One in three women will be raped by the time they are 18. One in seven men will suffer the same fate. Sexually assault, including but not limited to rape, makes up a disturbingly large amount of crime in California: 8%.

For too long and all too often, sexual abuse has been hidden away, not talked about and those responsible are not held accountable. For too long, survivors have been shamed, have been called liars or worse if they speak up.

Not anymore. Steele Cooper Law believes you and will protect you. Steele Cooper Law will fight for you.

Sexual abuse is violence to not just the body but the soul. If you are a survivor of sexual abuse or assault, you know all too well the disorienting damage caused. Love is the foundation of human relationships. Sexual intimacy is one of the most important ways people express love. Sexual violence steals your ability to be intimate, it creates fear, and cuts of your ability to do or receive that most fundamentally human thing: Love.

What is Sexual Assault and Rape?

Sexual Assault is is any act of unwanted sexual contact without a person’s consent, including any threats or coercion. It includes (but is not limited to) rape, threats, sodomy, and more.

Rape is an act of sexual intercourse – with a spouse, intimate partner, acquaintance, or stranger – without consent.

You have not consented if:

  • You were threatened
  • You were forced against your will
  • You were physically unable to say yes, from being asleep, unconscious, unaware, or disabled
  • You were mentally unable to say yes due to a disability
  • You were under the age of 17
  • You were under the age of 18, and the perpetrator was aged 18 or older

If you are a survivor of sexual abuse, assault or rape, you can seek economic justice and recover:

  • Your medical expenses
  • Your lost wages or loss of future earning potential
  • Your pain and suffering
  • Your loss of companionship with your partner

This is not tolerable. You should not have to suffer without the hope for a better future for yourself of those who come after you.
